Gemini in Google AI Studio keeps greying out “Run” button

Troubleshooting the “Run” Button Glitch in Google AI Studio’s Gemini Feature

If you’re utilizing Google AI Studio to explore the capabilities of Gemini 2.5 Pro, you may have encountered an irritating issue where the “Run” button becomes unresponsive after a few prompts. Having spent around six weeks leveraging this tool, I’ve noticed that this problem occurs frequently, preventing smooth operation and user experience.

The Frustrations of a Greying “Run” Button

Despite my attempts to resolve this by switching models or toggling the tool settings, nothing seems to work consistently. Although refreshing the page can sometimes restore functionality, it often leads to the loss of ongoing chats since they aren’t saved in the chat history. This adds another layer of frustration, as losing a conversation can be considerably disheartening, especially when progress is lost.

A Growing Concern

Recently, this issue has become increasingly problematic, particularly noticeable in new chats where the “Run” button often greys out right after the first prompt. In fact, this disruption now occurs more than 50% of the time, effectively obstructing any possibility for follow-up questions. This persistent glitch has made it incredibly challenging to utilize Google AI Studio effectively, posing a significant barrier to my work.

Seeking Solutions

I currently subscribe to Gemini Advanced with billing set up for Google AI Studio, and my usage remains moderate—generally ranging from 2 to 10 prompts per day, never exceeding 20. I also engage with Deep Research on a weekly basis, which shouldn’t push the limits of the service.

If you have encountered a similar issue or have any suggestions for potential solutions, your insights would be greatly appreciated. Together, we can work towards effective troubleshooting or at least shine a light on this growing concern within the Google AI Studio community.
