Exploring User-Driven Improvements for ChatGPT: An 11-Page Proposal with Mockups

In recent weeks, I’ve begun exploring ChatGPT more deeply, aiming to understand how this AI tool can evolve to better serve its users. As a non-developer and non-UX designer—just a curious, everyday user—I decided to take a hands-on approach: leveraging ChatGPT itself to help draft a comprehensive feature enhancement proposal.

The Experiment: Collaborating with ChatGPT to Develop a Features Proposal

Over a span of three to four days, I engaged in a back-and-forth dialogue with ChatGPT, refining ideas and generating visual mockups along the way. My goal was to craft an 11-page document outlining practical improvements that could enhance the user experience, increase productivity, and streamline workflows. This process has not only yielded an actionable proposal but also demonstrated the potential for user-driven design initiatives empowered by ChatGPT.

Core Features Proposed

The proposal encompasses a variety of feature ideas aimed at making ChatGPT more efficient and user-friendly. Some key highlights include:

  • Sliding Chat Segments: To improve performance by reducing browser slowdown, especially in Chrome.
  • New Tabs for Search, Media, and Bookmarks: Enhancing organization and quick access within the chat interface.
  • Selective Export of Bookmarked Messages: Allowing users to easily extract and utilize important conversation snippets.
  • Segment-Aware Bookmark Navigation: Facilitating fast jumps to specific bookmarked sections within a chat.
  • Context Pinning: Ensuring ChatGPT maintains focus on the current topic by pinning relevant context.
  • Chat Cleanup Tools: Features like categorized group deletion to keep chat histories tidy.
  • Feasibility and Safety Tiers: Outlined tiers to prioritize features based on complexity and safety considerations.
  • Chromium Outreach Ideas: A few thoughts on engaging the Chromium development community for broader integration.

Reflections on the Process and Next Steps

This was my first foray into formalizing user feedback and feature suggestions using ChatGPT itself. While the proposal is not perfect, it represents a meaningful step towards understanding what is possible when users actively participate in shaping product development.

I’m eager to hear your feedback:

  • Does the structure and flow of the proposal make sense?
  • Which features resonate most with your needs?
  • Are there additional ideas or refinements you would suggest?

Even if this remains a personal exploration, I believe it underscores the value of
