While each provided a list of notable devices, their selections consistently omitted several high-end Chinese smartphones such as the Oppo Find X8 Ultra and Vivo X200 Ultra.
Intrigued, I clarified the parameters by asking them to disregard factors like market availability. Despite this, their responses remained largely unchanged. When I inquired specifically about the exclusion of the Oppo model, the AI systems explained that their reasoning was based primarily on regional exclusivity, highlighting their tendency to consider geographic availability rather than technical specifications or market reputation.
The core issue seems to stem from how these models source their information. Most AI systems rely heavily on existing articles, rankings, and online content—often curated and biased towards clickbait or superficial summaries rather than detailed specifications or comprehensive reviews. This approach means that if the training data emphasizes certain sources over others, the AI’s recommendations can become skewed or incomplete.
So, why do AI systems struggle to select high-quality sources effectively? And what steps can users take to encourage better, more accurate research?
