From personal experience and community feedback, Canvas can sometimes hinder rather than help. When working within ChatGPT, the advantage is rapid, conversational interactions—if the Canvas layer becomes a barrier, it can restrict flexibility. Specifically, once a Canvas is set up, editing or modifying outputs based on initial prompts can become complicated. The model’s context is shared across the conversation, and if a user is unsatisfied with a particular response, cleaning up or correcting it isn’t as straightforward as editing the message. Instead, the Canvas may hold onto previous states, which can lead to confusion or carry-over of unwanted context, ultimately impairing the clarity and quality of subsequent interactions.

In essence, the Canvas feature may introduce friction into the user experience, especially when quick adjustments and iterative thinking are needed. For some users, sticking to the core chat interface may be more efficient, as it allows for easier modifications without the visual constraints or barriers imposed by Canvas.
