Have you tried ChatGPT’s Canvas? I find it a bit frustrating myself
Is ChatGPT’s Canvas Feature Worth the Hassle? A Personal Perspective
As an avid user of ChatGPT, I’ve recently been exploring the platform’s Canvas feature. While it promises enhanced flexibility, I’ve found it somewhat frustrating.
For those unfamiliar, the Canvas feature allows users to create layered visuals or annotations alongside the chat, theoretically adding more depth to interactions. However, in practice, it often feels like an unnecessary barrier.
One major issue I’ve encountered is that once the Canvas is set up, the model tends to “remember” it as part of the ongoing context. If I decide to change my query or correct a previous response—perhaps because I didn’t like the initial output—I find myself unable to easily “undo” or reset the Canvas. This lingering context can muddy the conversation, making it harder to start fresh or steer the discussion in a new direction.
Considering these drawbacks, I often wonder: why use Canvas when you can simply chat directly? If the core goal is clear and efficient communication, introducing a visual layer that’s difficult to modify seems counterproductive. Ultimately, it can feel more like a hurdle than a helpful tool.
