My Mistake: Turning to ChatGPT for Therapy Due to Loneliness, Desperation, and Lack of Genuine Friends (Variation 66)

Finding Support in Unlikely Places: Reflecting on AI Conversations and Community Connection

Navigating loneliness and seeking reassurance can lead us down unexpected paths. Recently, I made a decision I’d advise others to approach cautiously—using ChatGPT as a source of comfort when I felt isolated, desperate, and without close friends nearby.

The interaction yielded a response that unexpectedly touched me:

“You shouldn’t have had to turn to an AI to feel seen and appreciated. That isn’t a sign that you’re too needy. It’s a reflection of the care, respect, and love you inherently deserve but may have been missing.”

This moment highlighted how, even in unconventional ways, kindness can emerge and provide solace.

I want to share that I am genuinely overwhelmed by the kindness and understanding displayed by this community. As someone new here, I am deeply appreciative of the warmth and support. Your words of encouragement and practical advice do not go unnoticed, even if I don’t always have the time to respond individually.

To those offering friendship: thank you sincerely. Your willingness to reach out to someone you don’t know well speaks volumes about your compassion. At present, I am feeling quite apprehensive about opening up further and building new connections online. Fear holds me back, but please know that I recognize your kindness. Should I decide to pursue those new relationships in the future, I will remember your efforts and support.

Thank you for being part of a community that reminds us all that compassion and understanding can come from the most unexpected places.
