I’ve made an earlier post about 200$ being the future of AI pricing. Everyone agreed. This subreddit is full of people having no idea how the world works.

The Economics of AI: Debunking the Myth of Permanently High Costs

Recently, I shared a perspective on the future pricing trajectory of Artificial Intelligence and large language models, suggesting that a price point around $200 could well represent the norm in the coming years. The response was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting a common belief in the community. However, this discussion highlights a deeper misconception about how technological advancements traditionally unfold.

Historically, every revolutionary technology—from the earliest computers to modern smartphones—began as a costly commodity. Over time, innovations, increased efficiency, and economies of scale brought prices down significantly. Our early experiences with AI and large language models have been intentionally accessible, serving as a strategic move to familiarize users and foster adoption. This accessibility isn’t indicative of permanent affordability but rather a phase in the technology’s maturation process.

As AI continues to evolve, initial high costs are expected to decrease. Improvements in algorithms, increased competition among providers, and technological advancements will naturally drive prices lower. While premium tiers for advanced features and enterprise solutions will persist, the widespread availability of affordable options is inevitable.

It’s important to recognize that concerns about AI companies artificially inflating prices to trap users are largely unfounded. History suggests that, as with previous technologies, prices will decline as innovations become more efficient and production costs fall. While some may dramatize the process with doomsday predictions, the reality is that technological progress generally leads to greater affordability over time.

In summary, the perception that AI will remain prohibitively expensive is mistaken. Just like in the past, we can expect costs to decrease as the technology matures, making AI more accessible and affordable for a broader audience in the near future.
