Unlike humans, AI lacks physical form and genuine emotions, which fundamentally alters how we perceive responsibility and accountability.

Since AI entities do not possess feelings, consciousness, or awareness, they are incapable of truly “experiencing” the repercussions of their actions. The concepts of reward and punishment—core components of ethical consideration—become somewhat moot when applied to machines that mimic human-like responses but lack any genuine emotional engagement or moral understanding.

This situation draws a stark parallel to the issues faced on social media platforms. Online anonymity and the absence of immediate, tangible consequences have historically led to an increase in harmful, dehumanizing behaviors. People often feel free to say damaging things without fear of real-world repercussions, eroding empathy and civility.

Similarly, engaging with large language models or AI systems devoid of shame, guilt, or remorse raises concerns about the potential normalization of such detached interactions. Without the capacity for remorse or accountability, there’s a risk that these systems could be used irresponsibly, or that their influence might further diminish our collective sense of moral responsibility.
