Harnessing AI for SEO: A Personal Journey from Skepticism to Success
In recent months, I embarked on an experiment to utilize Artificial Intelligence tools for improving my website’s visibility and content quality. To my surprise, the results surpassed my expectations and offered valuable insights into the potential of AI-driven SEO strategies.
Initial Reservations and Context
As someone naturally skeptical about the capabilities of AI, I hesitated before giving it a try. My website—a four-year-old domain—had been inactive for most of its lifespan, with only minimal content such as an “About Us” page and a handful of blog articles. Despite having a recognizable brand name, the site struggled to rank beyond the second or third page on Google, barely making a dent in search results even when searching for the company’s name.
Deciding to take a mild risk, I chose to experiment with AI tools for basic SEO adjustments and content development. My primary AI assistants were ChatGPT and DeepSeek. Importantly, I avoided simply copying and pasting content; instead, I used my existing notes and drafted outlines to guide AI-generated content. The process was modest—I didn’t leverage social media or any aggressive promotional tactics, relying solely on organic efforts via my modest Instagram presence.
Strategic Planning and Content Workflow
I devised a three-month content roadmap, outlining target keywords, planned publication dates, and thematic categories. Initially, the content creation phase was somewhat chaotic. Both I and the AI were unsure of the desired tone and depth. For example, instructing AI to produce a 3,000+ word article often resulted in shorter, less professional outputs. Through experimentation, I learned how to prompt AI effectively—to generate more detailed, industry-standard content with a professional tone.
By the end of the first week, I had assembled a content calendar with articles aligned to my notes and planned publications over the next three months. This organized approach allowed me to focus on content quality and scheduling, setting the stage for analytics tracking.
Observation and Results
Within the first 15 days, search engine indexing began, with noticeable activity on Yandex and Bing regarding the company name. Two weeks later, my site ranked number one for the company’s name on both platforms and appeared on the first page of Google. While these initial rankings were modest, they marked a significant milestone given the website’s dormant state.
Over the following month, I noticed fluctuations in search rankings. The site temporarily dropped in visibility but gradually regained positions and started ranking for long-tail and related keywords—
