Harnessing AI for SEO: My Experience Revamping a Dormant Website
In recent months, I’ve explored the potential of Artificial Intelligence to enhance my website’s content and improve its search engine visibility. Coming from a skeptical perspective towards AI, I initially approached this experiment with caution. However, the results exceeded my expectations, prompting me to share my journey and insights with fellow website owners and Digital Marketers.
Background and Initial Challenges
The website in question is a five-year-old domain that had been largely inactive since its launch. It’s a straightforward WordPress site representing a corporate entity I founded. Despite its age, the site remained largely dormant, containing only a handful of pages—including an ‘About Us’ section—and a mere five blog articles. When I searched the company name, the site ranked only on the second or third page of Google, making visibility a clear area for improvement.
Determined to explore SEO enhancements, I decided to leverage AI tools—specifically ChatGPT and DeepSeek—for content refinement and keyword optimization. To maintain ethical standards, I never simply copied and pasted AI-generated text; instead, I used AI to rework existing notes and articles, or to generate new content aligned with my planned topics.
Setting a Clear Roadmap
My first step was designing a three-month content and SEO roadmap. I identified target keywords, curated a list of topics for articles, and scheduled publishing dates. As I refined this plan, I added specifics such as article titles, associated categories, and publication timelines. Initially, content creation was disorganized—AI would produce basic drafts that were far from publish-ready, and I found myself adjusting prompts and instructions to steer outputs toward a more professional, industry-specific tone.
Over time, with persistent tweaking, I managed to generate complete articles that adhered to my notes and SEO guidelines. By the end of the first week, I had prepared the entire content schedule for the upcoming three months, ready for publication.
Observing SEO Progress
Once content production was underway, I monitored the site’s performance through Webmaster tools and analytics platforms. Within just 15 days, the website began indexing, and I noticed movement in search results—particularly on Bing and Yandex—where the site started ranking for my company name. By the 30-day mark, the site ranked first on both Bing and Yandex for this term and appeared on the first page of Google search results.
While these rankings were modest, they confirmed that even without backlinks or paid advertising, consistent content
