My Recent Fortnights with Google’s AI: Miracles and Fears Unveiled

Exploring Google’s AI Model: A Journey of Discovery and App Creation

Over the last two weekends, I embarked on an intriguing journey with Google’s AI model. The experience left me both impressed and somewhat overwhelmed by the potential it holds.

Allow me to share a bit about myself. I come from a civil engineering background, focusing on design and project management, with no formal experience in coding or computer science. Recently, I decided to take advantage of a free student license offered for a new Google AI model. My goal was simple: to create a small application that would help me track my various projects.

I envisioned an uncomplicated solution, with functionalities that would allow for finance tracking and visual representations of project health. While I already use existing software for this purpose, I yearned for a tool tailored to my specific needs.

Last weekend, I dedicated around eight hours to this endeavor. I interacted with the AI model as if I were collaborating with a team of developers, providing input and ideas. To my astonishment, it generated entire blocks of code for me, guiding me on which programs to download and where to implement the code.

The most striking aspect of this experience was my realization that I could create a functioning program without any prior coding knowledge. While the application isn’t flawless, it serves its purpose according to my requirements, which is ultimately what I was aiming for.

However, there’s a part of me that feels a sense of dread about the rapid advancements in AI technology. This model is just the beginning, and its capabilities will only continue to improve.

I wasn’t entirely sure if I was using the appropriate forum for this discussion, but I’d appreciate any feedback on that front.

In the coming weeks, I plan to explore the possibility of developing more small-scale applications. The journey has just begun, and I’m excited to see where it leads!
