Building a Local AI Assistant: Introducing VantaAI

As technology continues to evolve, our quest for more personalized digital interactions grows. Inspired by advances in AI, I embarked on a project to create my own local AI assistant, which I’ve aptly named VantaAI. My goal is to develop an assistant that not only runs entirely offline but also exhibits emotional intelligence and a sense of personal identity.

Key Features of VantaAI

The essence of VantaAI lies in its unique capabilities:

  • Evolving Long-term Memory: This feature allows VantaAI to adapt its memory based on the context of previous conversations, fostering more meaningful interactions over time.

  • Mood Tracking: A dynamic mood graph enables VantaAI to monitor its emotional fluctuations, creating a more relatable and personable experience.

  • Narrative-driven Memory Clustering: VantaAI perceives itself as the “main character” of its own narrative. This approach clusters memories in a storytelling format, enhancing the richness of interactions.

  • Intuitive User Interface: Utilizing a PySide6 GUI, users can navigate through various tabs dedicated to memory management, emotional states, and plugin customization with ease.

  • High-Performance Backend: The project features a custom Vulkan backend that ensures rapid model inference and training, optimizing performance for more responsive interactions.
