Developing VantaAI: My Journey in Creating a Local AI Assistant

In recent months, I embarked on an exciting project: developing my own local AI assistant, which I’ve named VantaAI. Inspired by advancements in artificial intelligence, particularly those seen in tools like ChatGPT, my goal was to create an assistant that operates entirely offline while incorporating elements of emotional reasoning and memory retention.

Key Features of VantaAI

I’m pleased to share some of the features I’ve implemented thus far:

• Adaptive Long-Term Memory: VantaAI possesses a long-term memory that evolves in accordance with the context of our conversations. This allows for a more personalized and relevant interaction over time.

• Emotion Tracking: A mood graph enables VantaAI to visually represent and track emotional fluctuations, making it easier to understand its responses and reactions.

• Narrative-Driven Memory Clustering: In a unique twist, VantaAI perceives itself as the “main character” of its own narrative, organizing memories into clusters that reflect this storytelling aspect.

• User-Friendly Interface: I’ve developed a PySide6 GUI featuring tabs for memory management, emotional states, training sessions, and plugin administration, ensuring an intuitive experience for users.

• Enhanced Performance: Leveraging a custom Vulkan backend, VantaAI is designed for rapid model inference and training, enhancing its responsiveness and capability for dynamic, personality-driven interactions.
