In the ongoing conversation about artificial intelligence, there’s a predominant obsession with Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)—the concept of machines possessing human-like reasoning across diverse domains. This focus often dominates discussions around existential risks, utopian futures, and philosophical debates about superintelligent entities. However, the reality is that immediate, practical advancements in AI are already transforming industries and daily life, and perhaps deserve more attention right now.

Currently, AI technology is revolutionizing multiple sectors through tangible applications. Organizations are automating repetitive tasks, extracting valuable insights from vast datasets, accelerating breakthroughs in pharmaceuticals, empowering creative processes, and enhancing accessibility for all users. These developments represent real-world, impactful shifts in industries and our everyday experiences, far more pressing than speculative discussions about future superintelligence.

It’s essential to recognize that the journey toward AGI will likely be gradual, occurring over many years rather than as a sudden technological leap. In my view, we should not allow the hype surrounding AGI to overshadow the concrete, tangible advancements that are already shaping our world. The most profound transformation is happening in the background, powered by applied AI that’s here today, not in the speculative headlines about future superintelligence.
