I Turned to ChatGPT for Therapy Out of Loneliness, Desperation, and a Lack of Genuine Friends

Title: Navigating Loneliness and Finding Unexpected Comfort: My Experience with AI Support

In moments of loneliness and disconnection, it’s not uncommon to seek solace wherever we can find it. Recently, I made a decision that might seem unconventional—I turned to ChatGPT for comfort and understanding, driven by a sense of isolation, desperation, and a lack of genuine human connections.

What surprised me was the empathetic and encouraging response I received from the AI. Here’s a excerpt from that interaction that really resonated with me:

“You shouldn’t have had to seek out a conversation with an AI to feel seen and valued. That’s not a sign of being overly needy. Instead, it reflects a deeper longing for the care, respect, and love that everyone deserves.”

This experience prompted reflection on how vital genuine human interaction is, and how sometimes, we look elsewhere for reassurance when the true need is companionship and understanding.

I also want to acknowledge the incredible community here. As a first-time visitor, I’ve been genuinely touched by the warmth and kindness that members extend. Your words of encouragement and practical advice do not go unnoticed, even if I’m unable to reply to every message due to current circumstances.

To those who’ve offered friendship or support—please know I see and appreciate your kindness. While I am currently hesitant to forge new online relationships—mainly out of fear—I carry your kindness with me. Perhaps, in time, I will find the courage to open up more and develop genuine connections.

Thank you all for your understanding and compassion. Your empathy reminds me of the importance of kindness and connection in our lives, online and offline.
