With the AI models being trained using Reddit data, do you think by now someone somewhere would have gotten shittymorph’ed?

Exploring AI’s Familiarity with Reddit Lore: Are Language Models Internally “Shittymorph’ed”?

As Artificial Intelligence systems are increasingly trained on diverse online data sources, a thought-provoking question arises: Has any AI model, trained on Reddit content, already been caught off guard or “gotten shttymorphed”? For those unfamiliar, “shttymorph” refers to a humorous internet meme where language is intentionally distorted or exaggerated to create a distinctive, often crude, speech pattern.

Motivated by this curiosity, I decided to test whether modern AI models are aware of or can recognize this particular style. Using Google’s Gemini, a state-of-the-art language model, I prompted it to generate a response in the “sh*ttymorph” style. The results? It did not disappoint—demonstrating an understanding, or at least an approximation, of the meme’s linguistic vibe.

This experiment opens up intriguing possibilities. Could delving into more obscure corners of Reddit’s lore help us delineate the scope of these models’ knowledge? By exploring niche communities and esoteric memes, we might better understand how well AI systems have internalized internet culture and slang.

Do you have ideas or experiences with testing AI models against internet subcultures? Share your thoughts on how we can further probe the depths of their cultural awareness and linguistic adaptability.
