With the AI models being trained using Reddit data, do you think by now someone somewhere would have gotten shittymorph’ed?

Exploring AI’s Awareness of Reddit’s Hidden Lore: Have Models Encountered ‘Shittymorph’ Phenomena?

As Artificial Intelligence systems continue to evolve, their training datasets increasingly include vast quantities of internet content—Reddit being a significant contributor. This raises an intriguing question: has any AI trained on Reddit data ever been exposed to—and perhaps even mimicked—the notorious “Shittymorph” style?

Motivated by this curiosity, I decided to test whether state-of-the-art AI models, such as Google’s Gemini, are aware of this Reddit-specific meme. When I prompted Gemini to respond in the “Shittymorph” style, the results did not disappoint. The model successfully replicated the distinctive tone, suggesting that its training has at least partially encompassed this niche slang and meme culture.

This experiment opens the door to a broader investigation: could delving into more obscure or underground Reddit lore help us gauge the depth of these models’ knowledge? Understanding the boundaries of what AI systems have learned about internet subcultures can inform us about their capabilities—and limitations.

Do you have ideas on how to explore this further? Whether through probing other niche communities or analyzing specific terminologies, expanding this line of inquiry could provide valuable insights into the evolving landscape of AI understanding within digital subcultures.
