What’s your opinion about writing books with the help of AI?

The Role of AI Assistance in the Modern Writing Process: An Editorial Perspective

In today’s evolving literary landscape, the integration of Artificial Intelligence into creative writing prompts an intriguing discussion. How do you perceive the use of AI as a tool to support authors during the creative process?

It’s important to clarify that my interest does not lie in AI generating entire novels from a simple prompt. Instead, I’m referring to a collaborative approach where the author retains full control over the storytelling, but utilizes AI to refine descriptions of settings, characters’ movements, and other nuanced details. Essentially, the writer crafts the core narrative and then employs AI to enhance vocabulary, enrich descriptions, or suggest alternative phrasing.

This method raises an interesting question: would a book created through such a process be flagged as AI-assisted or artificially generated?

As someone for whom English is a second language, despite years of reading and a good grasp of the language, I sometimes find myself challenged by complex vocabulary and the art of “show, don’t tell.” I see AI as a helpful tool—not a crutch—to improve my descriptive writing until I can confidently express my ideas without sounding overly simplistic.

So, I’d love to hear your thoughts. How do you view AI’s role in creative writing? Do you see it as a valuable assistant, a potential shortcut, or something to be cautious about? Your insights are welcome.
