Two Weekends Exploring Google’s AI: Astonished and Apprehensive
A Journey with AI: Creating My Own Application Without Coding Experience
Over the course of the past two weekends, I’ve embarked on an intriguing adventure with Google’s AI model, and I find myself feeling both amazed and a bit apprehensive.
To give you some context about my background, I am a civil engineer specializing in design and project management, with no formal training in coding or computer science. Recently, I took the plunge and signed up for a free student license to explore this exciting new AI tool.
My goal was simple: I wanted to determine whether someone with my limited technical skills could leverage this innovative AI to build a small application for tracking my minor projects. I envisioned a straightforward solution—some basic visuals and financial tracking capabilities, with an emphasis on monitoring project health. While there are existing software solutions that fulfill this need, I craved the chance to create something that reflected my personal preferences.
I dedicated around eight hours last weekend to this endeavor. Interacting with the AI model felt akin to collaborating with a team of skilled programmers. Remarkably, it generated the entire code for me and guided me on what software to download and where to insert the code.
The outcome was astonishing. I managed to develop a functioning application without any prior coding knowledge. While the program isn’t flawless, it serves its purpose well and fits my requirements perfectly.
Yet, this experience has also left me feeling a certain level of unease. The implications of such powerful AI tools are significant, and it’s clear they will continue to evolve and improve over time.
This week, I plan to dive deeper and create additional small-scale applications. I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and hopeful for what I can achieve with this AI technology.
As I navigate this new territory, I welcome any insights or thoughts on my journey. If I’ve chosen the wrong category for this post, please feel free to provide feedback.
Stay tuned for more updates on my exploration of AI and application development!
