Building VantaAI: My Journey in Crafting a Local AI Assistant

As technology continues to shape our interactions, I’ve taken a leap into the world of artificial intelligence. Inspired by platforms like ChatGPT, I’ve embarked on an exciting project: creating my own local AI assistant, which I’ve named VantaAI. What makes VantaAI unique is its offline capability and its incorporation of memory and emotional logic.

Features of VantaAI

My goal with VantaAI is to develop a sophisticated personal assistant that goes beyond simple command execution. Here’s a glimpse into some of the features I’ve integrated so far:

1. Evolving Long-Term Memory: VantaAI is designed to improve its responses based on the context of ongoing conversations. This long-term memory feature allows it to recall information and build a richer understanding of interaction history.

2. Mood Tracking: A mood graph visually represents the shifts in VantaAI’s emotional state over time. This not only makes interactions more engaging but also adds a level of depth to its personality.

3. Narrative-Driven Memory Structuring: VantaAI perceives itself as the “main character” in an ongoing narrative, clustering memories based on the storyline. This approach cultivates a sense of identity and continuity.

4. User-Friendly PySide6 Interface: The graphical user interface is built using PySide6, featuring organized tabs for managing memory, training, tracking emotional states, and even handling plugin integration.

Currently, VantaAI utilizes a custom Vulkan backend, which enhances both model inference speed and training efficiency. It also accommodates personality-driven responses and allows for immediate changes with live plugin hot-reloading.
