Building VantaAI: My Journey Developing a Local AI Assistant

As an enthusiast inspired by the advancements in artificial intelligence, I recently embarked on an exciting project: creating my own local AI assistant, aptly named VantaAI. The goal behind VantaAI is to operate entirely offline while emphasizing dynamic interaction through emotional memory and a simulated personality.

Over the course of development, I have introduced several innovative features aimed at enhancing interactivity and personalization:

• Adaptive Long-Term Memory: VantaAI possesses the ability to evolve its memory based on contextual conversations, allowing for richer and more meaningful interactions.
• Mood Tracking: Through a unique mood graph, the assistant can monitor and display its emotional fluctuations over time, adding depth to its personality.
• Narrative Memory Clustering: VantaAI is designed to understand its experiences through the lens of a “main character” in an ongoing story, fostering a sense of identity.
• User-Friendly Interface: Utilizing a PySide6 graphical user interface, users can easily navigate through various tabs dedicated to memory management, emotional states, training options, and plugin integrations.

Currently, the assistant employs a custom Vulkan backend for optimized model training and inference, which enhances responsiveness and allows for personality-driven replies. Additionally, it supports live plugin hot-reloading, making it adaptable to new features.
