Building a Local AI Assistant: Progress on VantaAI

As technology advances, the concept of artificial intelligence has taken center stage in our daily lives. Inspired by existing models like ChatGPT, I embarked on an exciting journey to create my own local AI assistant, which I’ve named VantaAI. The goal? To develop an AI that operates entirely offline and embodies unique characteristics such as emotional memory and personalized identity.

Features of VantaAI

Excitingly, VantaAI packs a range of innovative features designed to enhance interaction and user experience:

  • Evolving Long-Term Memory: The assistant possesses a memory system that adapts and grows based on the context of conversations, allowing it to provide more relevant and personalized responses over time.

  • Mood Tracking: A dynamic mood graph enables VantaAI to monitor and illustrate emotional fluctuations, giving it an engaging and relatable presence.

  • Narratives and Memory Clustering: One of the more intriguing aspects is its narrative-driven approach to memory. VantaAI perceives itself as the central figure in its own story, allowing for deeper emotional connections through storytelling.

  • User-Friendly Interface: Built using PySide6, the graphical user interface includes multiple tabs dedicated to memory management, training sessions, emotional states, and the latest plugin integrations.

Technical Insights

To ensure optimal performance, VantaAI utilizes a custom Vulkan backend that enables efficient model inference and training capabilities. This architecture supports personality-based interactions and features live plugin hot-reloading, allowing for seamless updates and enhancements.
