Exploring the Power of AI: My Journey with Google’s New Model

Over the past couple of weekends, I had the opportunity to dive deep into Google’s latest AI model. The experience was nothing short of a rollercoaster, leaving me both astounded and a bit uneasy.

Let me provide some context about myself. I hold a position as a civil engineer, specializing in design and management, but I have no formal training in coding or computer science. Intrigued by the potential of Artificial Intelligence in streamlining processes, I decided to sign up for a free student license for this new AI tool.

My goal was simple: to determine whether an individual with no programming knowledge could utilize this advanced technology to create a basic application for tracking my small-scale projects. I envisioned a tool with simple features—charts for visualizing data, financial tracking capabilities, and a way to monitor the health of my projects. While there are existing software solutions that serve this purpose, I wanted to design something tailored to my specific needs.

After dedicating nearly eight hours to the project over the weekend, I found myself conversing with the AI model as if I were collaborating with a team of experienced developers. To my surprise, the model generated entire segments of code for me. It guided me on which programs to download and where to paste the code—the process felt remarkably intuitive.

I was genuinely impressed by the results. Despite my lack of coding expertise, I managed to create a functioning application that meets my requirements. While it may not be perfect yet, it works for me in the way I envisioned.

However, I can’t shake the feeling of apprehension. The rapid advancement of AI technology poses significant implications for the future. These models are continuously improving and evolving, and it’s difficult to predict just how powerful they will become.
