Understanding the Restrictions on Deleting Gemini Chats in Workspace Pro Subscriptions

Seeking Clarity on Deleting Gemini Chats for Workspace Pro Accounts

As a user of the Gemini feature in Workspace Pro accounts, I find myself facing a frustrating limitation regarding chat management. I would like to address a particular issue that many of us have encountered: the inability to delete previous Gemini chats.

In the admin settings, there are options that allow for either saving conversations or not being able to revisit them at all. However, it seems there is a missed opportunity for a more flexible solution that could empower end users with the option to delete their chat history if they so choose.

Moreover, the admin panel settings suggest a rather rigid approach to chat management, stating that disabling conversation history does not remove existing chats, even if one adjusts settings moving forward. Am I possibly overlooking a detail here that would clarify this oversight?

According to the official guidance regarding Gemini conversation history, admins can dictate whether conversations are saved and the duration before they are automatically deleted. Disabling conversation history, however, does not retroactively affect previous discussions, which are governed by an automatic deletion schedule.

Here’s a brief overview of what the settings entail:

  • Gemini Conversation History: This feature allows users to revisit past dialogues.

  • [ ] Enable Gemini conversation history

  • Untick to disable chat history

  • Conversation Retention: The current setting suggests a retention period of 18 months before conversations are purged from a user’s history.

In light of these stipulations, it seems that a more user-centric approach would be beneficial. It would make a world of difference if we could manage our chat histories more effectively by having the option to delete conversations at our discretion.

We kindly request the team behind Gemini to consider addressing this limitation. Providing users with a choice in managing their chat data would certainly enhance the overall experience.
