As the clock ticks forward, we find ourselves at the brink of unprecedented transformation within the eCommerce industry—a shift that could redefine our professional landscapes and career trajectories. At 30, I’ve devoted half my life to this dynamic sector, entering the eCommerce realm at just 14 years old. Over the years, I’ve charted a course from a sales position to the Director of Partnerships at my current agency, navigating roles such as Director of Project Management and Director of Operations along the way.

Throughout my career, I have been immersed in various aspects of web development and design, overseeing ambitious SEO initiatives and comprehensive eCommerce marketing campaigns. The projects I’ve managed have ranged from modest budgets of $20,000 to high-stakes undertakings exceeding $1 million, each demanding strategic foresight and a nuanced understanding of consumer behavior. From Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) strategies to UI/UX design planning, my involvement has spanned the spectrum of our industry’s operations.

However, the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) is disrupting the status quo in ways I could not have predicted. In a recent conversation with a former colleague at an agency I once worked for, I learned that their once-thriving SEO team, which boasted 25 copywriters, has dwindled to just four. Remarkably, their revenue from SEO has surged by $20,000 a month since I left, largely attributed to AI’s capacity to replace many junior writers. Now, seasoned professionals focus on refining AI-generated prompts to ensure compliance with copyright regulations.

In another instance, an agency I am familiar with made waves by disbanding its entire US development team, opting instead for talent from Latin America.
