Introducing Your Teen to AI Automations: A Pathway to Skill Development
In today’s fast-paced digital world, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation are revolutionizing the way businesses operate. If you’re a parent eager to guide your teenager toward valuable skills in this exciting field, you’re in the right place. Recently, I faced a similar situation with my teenage son, who expressed a keen interest in technology and AI. With the goal of helping him gain hands-on experience, particularly in the context of our highly transactional business, I believe AI automations could be an excellent starting point.
Why AI Automations?
As businesses increasingly rely on technology to streamline their operations, understanding AI automations becomes crucial. It not only equips individuals with sought-after skills but also allows them to contribute meaningfully to real-world projects. My son has already shown initiative by teaching himself Python through platforms like Codecademy, demonstrating that he is ready for more advanced learning.
Best Resources to Get Started
-
Online Courses: Websites like Coursera and Udacity offer a plethora of courses specifically tailored for beginners in AI and automation. Look for introductory courses that cover the basics of machine learning, automation principles, and their applications in business scenarios.
-
YouTube Tutorials: There are numerous channels dedicated to AI and automation. Visual learning through videos can be extremely beneficial. Encourage your son to explore tutorials that focus on practical applications, especially those related to Python.
-
Books: There are several excellent books that can provide a deeper understanding of AI concepts. Titles like “Hands-On Machine Learning with Scikit-Learn, Keras, and TensorFlow” by AurĂ©lien GĂ©ron or “Artificial Intelligence: A Guide to Intelligent Systems” by Michael Negnevitsky are good starting points.
-
Projects: Practical experience is essential. Create mini-projects that will allow him to apply what he’s learned. For example, setting up a simple automation using Python to analyze data from our business ERP system could provide hands-on experience while also benefiting the business.
-
Community Engagement: Encourage him to join online forums or local tech meetups. Engaging with like-minded individuals can provide inspiration and help him stay updated with the latest trends in AI.
Bridging the Gap to Real Experience
To facilitate his growth, my plan is to let him experiment with our ERP sandbox. This will not only offer him practical experience but will also enable him to contribute to our business operations
