The Remarkable Advances in AI: Crafting 3D Models with Ease

Hello everyone! I’m Jan, one of the developers at 3D AI Studio. Today, I’d like to share some exciting advancements in the world of AI-driven design, particularly in generating 3D models. Please note, this is purely an informational post and not a promotional section for our platform. All techniques I discuss can be achieved using free, open-source software options. I’ve included alternatives in the comments for those who prefer not to use our tools.

Turning Ideas into Reality

Recently, I sketched a one-wheeled robot on my iPad while enjoying a cup of coffee. Using AI technology, I transformed this simple PNG sketch into a detailed image with the help of our 3D AI Studio. However, if you don’t have access to our platform, you can easily replicate this process using tools like ChatGPT or Gemini, which can convert images based on prompts.

I applied a specific prompt to the AI, stating: “Transform the provided sketch into a finished image that matches the user’s description. Preserve the original composition, aspect ratio, perspective, and key line-work unless changes are requested. Add colors, textures, lighting, and stylistic details based on the user’s input. The user says: stylized 3D rendering of a robot on wheels, Pixar, Disney style.”

Streaming from Image to 3D Model

Rather than utilizing our website directly, you can upload your sketch to ChatGPT with the same prompt to achieve a similar outcome. After processing, I clicked “Load into Image to 3D” using the default Prism 1.5 setting. For those seeking free alternatives, consider using open-source 3D models like Trellis; it may take a little more effort, but it’s entirely doable.

Approximately 40 seconds later, I had a complete mesh model, simplified to 7k triangles within the same interface. I then exported the model as an STL file, sliced it using Bambu Studio, and completed the 3D print in just under three hours.

Here’s the final outcome of the model I generated:
