Join the Internet-Wide Day of Action for Net Neutrality on July 12!

As we look forward to July 12, an important movement is gaining traction across the web: the Internet-Wide Day of Action to Save Net Neutrality. Major players in the online landscape, including PornHub, OK Cupid, Imgur, DuckDuckGo, and Namecheap, have signed on to this initiative, joining the likes of Amazon, Kickstarter, Etsy, Mozilla, and Reddit, who were already committed.

What’s Happening?

This week, PornHub, boasting approximately 75 million daily visitors, officially announced its participation in the movement and highlighted the importance of net neutrality. Following this announcement, a host of other high-traffic platforms such as GitHub, Vimeo, Chess.com, and many more have joined forces to show their support. Furthermore, Reddit has rallied together with over 30 different subreddits engaging in this vital campaign.

Net neutrality is a fundamental principle that ensures Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Comcast and Verizon cannot impose extra charges for accessing specific content or engage in activities like throttling or censoring applications and websites. At the center of this debate is Title II, the legal framework upholding net neutrality, which is currently under threat from the FCC, influenced heavily by lobbyists from the cable industry.

Why It Matters

This day of action represents a crucial opportunity for individuals and businesses across the political spectrum to unite against the control that cable companies seek to impose on our online experiences. Recent actions by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, a former Verizon attorney, reflect an alarming trend toward dismantling net neutrality under misleading pretenses.

The FCC is accountable to Congress, and a strong showing of public resistance, similar to the impactful SOPA Blackout and Internet Slowdown, can make a difference in safeguarding the internet as a free and open space for creativity and innovation.

How You Can Participate

We encourage everyone with a website, social media presence, or any online platform to get actively involved. From temporary site blackouts to mobilizing community discussions or reaching out to lawmakers, there are numerous ways to participate.
