From Zero to Game Developer: My Six-Month Journey with AI
As a lifelong gaming enthusiast and a practicing psychiatrist, I never envisioned that I could create my own game without diving back into formal education. Yet, here I am, excited to share that within just six months and without any coding experience, I successfully developed a word game! My journey has been greatly enhanced by the power of Artificial Intelligence, particularly with tools like ChatGPT and Claude, which have revolutionized the way I work.
The Power of AI in Game Development
When I first contemplated building a game, I thought I was too lazy to see it through, despite my enthusiasm. However, armed with just a concept and a determination to communicate my ideas clearly, I was amazed as AI transformed my verbal descriptions into functioning code almost instantly. While there were certainly hiccups along the way, AI proved to be incredibly responsive, quickly identifying and resolving issues as they arose.
Rather than becoming bogged down in the complexities of programming syntax and data structures, I found that AI allowed me to focus on the broader strokes of game development. My initial idea quickly materialized into a working prototype in Python within days. As my skills grew, I transitioned the project into React for a more sophisticated user interface and ultimately built a Node.js server to manage player data.
An Exciting Learning Curve
The rapid pace at which I could move from concept to functioning model was exhilarating. Instead of spending time on smaller, experimental projects, I was able to invest my energy directly into refining game mechanics, perfecting user experience, and ensuring that the game was genuinely enjoyable for players. Today, I’m delving into Swift to develop an iOS version that will include exciting features like offline play and adaptive difficulty.
Every idea I have now feels achievable, and I’m even contemplating a shift in my career path. The capabilities of AI have opened up extensive possibilities, and I find myself constantly inspired by what can be created.
