The Challenges of Using AI for Study Assistance: My Experience with Gemini Advanced
In my quest to streamline my study process, I recently decided to purchase Gemini Advanced, a sophisticated AI tool designed to aid in academic endeavors. Initially, the software exceeded my expectations by efficiently resolving my questions and crafting custom tests, greatly reducing the time and effort I spent on studying. However, an unexpected hurdle dampened my enthusiasm.
While researching methods to enhance my study efficiency, I stumbled upon the “3-Stage Learning Technique.” Excited by its potential to boost my productivity, I attempted to incorporate it into my routine with Gemini’s help. The plan was to prompt Gemini to assist me in implementing this technique. Unfortunately, I was met with a disappointing setback when the AI responded, “I couldn’t complete your request. Rephrase your prompt and try again.” Despite rephrasing the request multiple times, the outcome remained unchanged.
The Prompts I Tried:
First Attempt:
I detailed my findings on the “3-Stage Learning Technique,” explaining each stage and how Gemini could assist by providing chapter summaries beforehand, offering post-study summaries, and highlighting exam-relevant content.
Second Attempt:
Reframing the request, I asked Gemini to deliver a comprehensive pre-study summary, focusing on key formulas and real-life applications, while advising that I could manage the highlighting process and seek help if necessary post-study.
Third Attempt:
I simplified my request further, still aiming for Gemini to present pre-study insights and post-study reflection to solidify my understanding.
Conclusion
The experience with Gemini Advanced highlights the potential challenges of relying on AI for seamless academic assistance. While it initially granted me significant benefits, the inability to execute more complex tasks like adapting study techniques reveals areas requiring improvement. Despite this setback, I remain hopeful that advancements in AI technology will eventually bridge these gaps, providing students with even more effective learning tools.
